Behind the Scenes of the Bohemian Sunset Weave Pattern Collection

Creating a pattern collection is more than just choosing beautiful colors and shapes—it’s a deeply personal and thoughtful process that weaves together elements of family, inspiration, and hours of design work. And as a mother of two beautiful daughters, I can't help but compare the journey of designing a collection to raising siblings who share a bond but are also so wonderfully unique. Just like siblings, each pattern in a collection works together to create a harmonious family, but with its own quirks and character. It’s fascinating to see how even though they carry the same genetic “traits” from their “parents” (the Hero Patterns), they develop their own distinct personalities. Each pattern draws from the hero patterns, carrying over key elements—like color combinations, shapes, and subtle features—but reinterprets them in new ways. It’s like how my daughters, despite being raised the same, have their own strengths and areas where they complement each other perfectly. And that’s what makes a pattern collection special—each piece is unique but still feels part of the larger family.

It all starts with imperfect, messy sketches

The journey of creating a pattern collection like the Bohemian Sunset Weave is both creative and technical. It all starts with sketching and designing elements that flow together seamlessly. We focus on creating a balanced visual experience—making sure that the patterns draw your eye in without overwhelming you. The combination of large, bold elements alongside smaller, more delicate accents creates harmony. We keep the colors to a limited palette to maintain balance, ensuring that nothing feels too busy. Bohemian (or "boho") color schemes often feature a mix of rich, earthy, and jewel tones, which create a cozy, eclectic, and free-spirited atmosphere. We’ve carefully chosen a rich, earthy palette—emerald green to evoke nature’s calm, white accents to keep things light, and soothing grays to let the vibrant tones shine. Warm yellows and rich earth tones like deep reds and browns ground the design, creating an organic, cozy vibe. This collection offers a free-spirited, eclectic feel that feels both energizing and serene, drawing you in without overwhelming. It’s the perfect blend of warmth and tranquility for any space.

Satisfied with the digital, we then make it a tactile, physical experience.

Once we have the patterns in place, we think about the fabric. This is where things get interesting because translating a pattern to textile takes a lot of testing and tweaking. We try out different fabrics—velvet, linen blend, and others—to see how the designs look when printed. We’ve spent hours experimenting with different options to make sure the results are nothing short of perfect. And once we’ve got the patterns and fabrics just right, we send them off to our seamstress, who turns the designs into beautiful, finished products—tea towels, table runners, scatter cushions, and more.

Attention to detail.

For us, creating each piece is a true labor of love. Every detail, from matching the yarn to selecting the perfect piping color for a cushion cover to adding our little labels and logos, is carefully considered. We want every customer to feel the value of their purchase and know that it wasn’t mass-produced in a factory. We pour our time, effort, and energy into making sure each piece is of the highest quality and will truly enhance your space.

Where do we find the inspiration?

One of the reasons we’re so proud of this Bohemian Sunset Weave collection is that we’ve really tapped into a personal, emotional connection to Africa’s landscapes—drawing on the vibrant colors of the Sahara and the tranquil beauty of botanical elements. We want people to feel a sense of warmth and belonging when they interact with these designs, whether they’re from South Africa or elsewhere. And because we understand that personalization matters, we even offer the option to adjust colors for that extra special touch.

Natural or blended textiles?

We also moved away from natural textiles like pure cotton or linen because we found that these fabrics couldn’t hold the pigment of our prints after washing. So, we decided to use sublimation printing, which ensures that the color stays vibrant and fresh, wash after wash.

So, what’s the takeaway from all this? Creating a pattern collection isn’t just about pretty designs—it’s about sharing something meaningful, something you can feel a connection to. Whether you’re a busy mom looking to beautify your home without the hassle of an interior designer, or an interior decorator searching for that perfect pattern to complement your vision, we’ve got something special for you.
